Informative Speech Outline

INTRO
Attention getter: Good day 2G, I'm Nadiah and on my screen are what familiar looking images from the conflict as of late.
Introduction of topic: So many people reckon that the Palestinian and Israeli conflict is a conflict of which religion is more legitimate. Islam or Judaism? Muhammad or Ezra? To fast during Ramadan or Yom Kippur? It is actually just about land, just like a lot of conflicts in the world have been about.
Thesis/preview statement: So it is clear that we think we know a lot but we are most probably misinformed about the whole issue. What better way to tackle misinformation by looking at the background of the conflict. So we shall start with what exactly is Zionism?

Demonstrative Speech Outline [UPDATED]

I. Introduction
AGift wrapping has never been a chore for me.  It's just something very fulfilling about making a great first great impression of your gift. Since Valentine's Day is coming soon and Mother's day is only a month away, I'll show you how you can impress someone special or you dear mother with your gifts. I'm sure you all have something in plan for you loved ones! Why not go the extra mile? I have been handling gifts for my family for ages now. Only recently i have been making gift boxes for my friends and I have been making my gifts even more prettier than usual. How else am I going to use up my craft supplies and have a reason to get new ones. So do lend me your eyes and ears because I will be showing you how to make your gifts memorable by showing the things that you need, how to decorate it and also how to add personalised touches. It's no doubt that they'll love the things that you have gotten for them but they'll surely appreciate your efforts in making it

First, we would have to gather the materials and that would be;
  • Brown parchment paper.
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape
  • Washi tapes
  • Baker's twines
  • Wax stamp set
  • Gift tag
  • A bar of chocolate
  • Doily paper
  • Glue
Of course not everybody has fancy craft supplies so alternative materials would be:
  • Ribbons
  • Rubber stamp set.
  • Jute twine
  • Manila card
So materials are all set so now we can move on to the wrapping part! This is the easiest as it is basically just wrapping a square-shaped object only with brown paper. This is because brown paper will make the colourful accents of the tape and the twines stand out! I have wrapped a book earlier so I can get to the fun part; decorating your gift!
  1. Set a theme, mine would be for Valentine's Day
  2. Using a red washi tape, apply the tape on the borders of your gift. Washi tape is so convenient as its basically coloured and decorated masking tape and they come in lots of colours and patterns so the possibilities are endless
  3. Make sure the tape is neatly secured and pasted.
  4. Glue a piece of doily paper on your gift. Before you paste it, you can either choose to write a greeting or use a sticker to decorate it. For today I'll use this sticker because it fits our theme.
  5. Tie a piece of twine around the parcel. You can use both colourful baker's twine or just jute string even. Against the doily paper, both will stand out nicely and give the gift a touch of rustic elegance.
Once the gift is decorated the next step is adding personlised touches!
  1. Write a greeting on the gift tag.
  2. On the other side of the tag, decorate the gift tag with washi tape to make your gift memorable
  3. Alternatively make a gift tag of your own from manila card.
  4. Have your initial or pattern stamped on the decorated side of the tag using either a wax or rubber stamp so your recipient would know who gave it to them. You can even stamp a greeting on the tag.
  5. Tie the gift tag one the twines that were tied across the parcel earlier with a shorter piece of twine.
And we now have a prettily wrapped gift just waiting to be received by a very lucky loved one. A recap of all the steps are:
  1. Wrap the gift neatly
  2. Decorate it accordingly to the theme with colourful materials
  3. Add personalised touches
If you follow this technique, you will definitely capture the attention and hearts of the person you want to impress. The best thing about this is that it's relative simple, cheap and quick. A simple gift such as chocolate will definitely be as memorable to a person as if you give them a very fancy gadget when you show some effort in making it look presentable. So thank you for lending me you attention and good luck!

Demonstrative Speech Outline

Gift wrapping has never been a chore for me. I just love decorating or assembling something to make it aesthetically pretty before I give it away to someone. It's just something very fulfilling about making a great first great impression of your gift. Which is why I'm going to do gift wrapping for my demonstrative speech and you can learn how to make your gifts stand out and memorable towards a loved one. The steps are after the jump!

Choosing a Topic

So in this post I apparently have to brainstorm and maybe choose a topic to do a demonstrative speech on. My lecturer reckons its the easiest if it is based off my interests and I couldn't agree more.

But...

The problem is my interests are makeup, cooking and books. Now I know you're going to say there's a lot that I can do with those three interest especially cooking and makeup.

Okay let's see what can I do with cooking? Like I have mentioned in my last post, it's quite a hassle if I showed and do a full step to step how-to on a dish. Imagine the oily mess that comes with deep frying churros or stained tables and fingers from food colouring from making macarons. It's such a pity that we can't hold our demonstrative speech in a kitchen if not I will be cooking up a storm...and also take more than the allocated time.

So I suppose if I'm not going to cook from scratch, I might do something decorative. Maybe how to decorate a cupcake with fondant. Fondants are basically edible and sweet play-doh and they are so much fun to use. That will capture everyone's attention. Another idea could be puff pastry. Since I have zero patience to make the pastry from scratch, I might just cheat for a bit and use ready-made, store-bought pastry. I'm not going to make a whole pie in class of course, but I can show them how to cut and fold and tuck puff pastry so they can be all sorts of gorgeous crisp and crumbly bread. Tempered chocolate is another idea. But it's quite hard to do with out the equipment. And drinks oh yes drinks! In Lendu where it's always hot and sunny, showing the class how to make Italian soda. So maybe caramel snaps and then serve it with some ice cream.

Makeup is always the interest that lies closest to heart. I'm generally good at doing almost the generic looks; natural, bridal, smokey etc. But I can also do some special effects makeup as well. Since there are three male students in the class, monster makeup might definitely attract their eyes ad ears. The only thing about special effects makeup is that if I decide to do this it would be quite expensive and I will have to order liquid latex at least a month beforehand. It wouldn't be such a waste though, in my opinion, since I might reuse the latex for another project in my drama course.

Another interest that I forgot to mention in my previous post is that I love, love, love making gift boxes for people. My best friend Adelia gets mine quite often as she an angel and she lives in Singapore so I send her over some stuff like candy or makeup. But I make sure those things are gorgeously(and securely) packed and sent off to her. And since we would be presenting it in late January or early February when it's nearing Valentine's day it could be a good occasion to show them how to put together one or show them how to gift wrap a present nicely. Maybe even show them how to make a loop flower bow and all.

All in all, I actually think I have a few options in this. I have yet to decide which one is the best though.

Expensive Interests?

So a part of the course's assessments is to present a demonstrative speech. My lecturer, Miss Afifa wanted to us to explore our interests as she reckons a good speech should be passionate towards the speaker. Only then will the speech be delivered well and capture the attention of the audience. Personally, I agree to this. I also love the fact that I have this blog to brainstorm for ideas for this assessment. Miss Afifa you are a trooper.

One of my biggest interest right now is quite possibly makeup. Oh dear god I would wake up an hour early in the morning so I will have enough time for me to comfortably perfect my face in the morning(not that it takes a lot of time actually, I just like being early). I'm seriously considering if I would do a demonstrative on makeup. But I don't know if that would appeal to the rest of my audience. There are three males in this class so I don't think they'd want to see a demo on a smokey eye look. But some of my classmates have approached me and ask if I could help them with their makeup. It would also be different, I would say but I don't want to appear shallow and I want to appeal to everyone. Maybe a special effects look? Oh I may also teach my class how to make prosthetics. We do have a drama course in this programme so that would be incredibly helpful I think.

Another interest of mine is baking and cooking. Baking did came to mind when it was mentioned that but I'm not lugging an oven to class. And a mixer, blender and not to mention the whole arsenal of baking ingredients. Maybe a drink would be easier? Blenders are quite mobile to carry around so that could be possible. Or perhaps a no-bake cakes or puddings? They are easy. Foods such as chilled cheesecakes and panna cotta are fairly simple to make and also the end product is super pretty. Oh! Deserts are also quite fun to make and in front of hungry college students, it will surely capture their attention.

I have also notice that both of my interests are quite costly. Ah well, it's a lot of fun, makeup and food so it all good money well spent. Another issue is that I will have to lug a lot of things to class or maybe the computer lab. But that may be solved with maybe a group of helpful friends or a sturdy bag. All in all, I think I could do this and I have got myself excited thinking of all the possibilities of things I can demonstrate to my class.

What does 'speech' mean to me?

This is my first assignment so here goes!
  1. I suppose speech to me is the basic form of expression for humans and animals too. It's an effective way of communication as it's easy since it's spoken from a person to another. The message gets transmitted from one person to another or even a whole group of people!
  2. Demonstrative speech are quite possibly to speeches that shows or demonstrate to people how to do something. It might be something from how to make the perfect cup of coffee or even how to make friends when in college. Informative speech however, is intended to capture the audience's attention and to inform them of an issue or a topic. In a sense, I think it discusses the issue in an in-depth manner because it's made to well, inform!
  3. People who usually give speeches? Leaders, politicians, celebrities when they achieved something, debaters, public figures.
  4. I think what makes a speech memorable is, first and foremost, charisma of the speaker. You have to admit, great leaders in history are always remembered by their speeches, and all of them exudes charisma when they stood and reached out to their audience. A speech should also be relatable and able to transcend through various groups of people. Martin Luther King's speech was memorable because he spoke of oppression and human rights and even though the speech was given decades ago, it is still relevant now and remembered as those issues are still personal to a lot of groups of people.
  5. Personally I think I don't have what it takes. I mean, I can do speeches and I have made some but I don't think people would remember what I say for a long time. Maybe it's because I'm not that influential or I don'r have enough charisma to ignite something in people yet. But I do know how to relate to people for most of the time. So I think there's hope but it's a long, long way to go.

A Glimpse of Myself

Basically me in a nutshell
Hello there reader! I am willing to bet that you are either my classmates, lecturer or even the followers of my other blog. This blog will be my a part of my coursework for my Listening and Speaking course. I guess an intro would be good now

Nadya is what a lot of people call me. No one ever calls me by the last the last name so I guess there's no point in telling it. Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, I have been surrounded by urbanisation my whole life, making me a city girl. But at the age of 13 I was sent away to quite possibly the tiniest state of the country way, way, way up north to get my secondary education. I spent five years almost away from home and I think I developed a lot through that. And now I am thrown down south to get a taste of what tertiary education is like. Malacca almost feels like home for once. Semi-urbanised; it was a nice place to be despite the scorching humidity(I was used to it when I was in rural Perlis).

You can tell a lot about a person by what they choose to pursue in Uni. So yes I do enjoy books and literature and learning in general. But I also enjoy conjuring up delicious foods and also savouring delicacies, when I have the time and money of course. So in short, I am a foodie. I also like making myself aware of the things that's happening around the world. I have been furiously acquainting myself with issues such as feminism and police brutality and cultural appropriation. Discussing them with people are also nice. Having someone see how you view things and seeing their opinions slowly change as well is very, very satisfying indeed. I like making myself look pretty too! Cosmetics always have a soft spot in my heart, not so much in my wallet though. If I have to choose between three things to spend my money on it would be food, books and cosmetics. Man, my hobbies are expensive.

As this is for my Listening and Speaking course, I hope that by the end of this semester my speaking skills will be sharpened and I can finally write a speech that maybe everyone call remember rather than being remembered because of my pretty lipstick(I don't really mind either to be frank, but you know). I guess I hope that I can engage with my classmates and my lecturer, Ms Afifa and develop as a speaker and a listener. God knows I need to work on these skills.
